Overview:

Our electrical infrastructure sits at an inflection point, soon to be overwhelmed by rapidly increasing demand and aging, vulnerable infrastructure. Energy costs will continue to rise and outages will become more frequent unless we rapidly transition from our current centrally managed model, to a decentralized and digitalized grid.

DEP’s mission is to make clean, resilient, and renewable energy systems accessible to everyone by developing intelligent software that automates the design and deployment of ultra-efficient decentralized DC microgrids. The future of energy is decentralized, based upon power electronics and DC. We're building the team that will make it a reality.

Job Description:

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Electrical Project Engineer to support the design and execution of DC microgrids and renewable energy projects across a wide range of industries, including commercial, industrial, and data center applications. You’ll play a key role in designing electrical systems, coordinating project execution, and working closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to ensure project success from concept through commissioning.

This is an exciting opportunity to grow your career while working on high-impact energy infrastructure projects. Especially if you are excited to combine electrical engineering with software and control system knowledge.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in designing electrical systems for microgrids and distributed energy resources, including solar PV, battery energy storage, generators, and backup power systems.

  • Support the development of single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, equipment layouts, cable schedules, and technical specifications.

  • Contribute to low- and medium-voltage electrical system design, including switchgear, protection devices, and control panels.

  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams (electrical, controls, software) to ensure system compatibility and integration.

  • Participate in all phases of project execution, including design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning.

  • Track engineering deliverables and project milestones to ensure timely and high-quality execution.

  • Communicate with clients, utilities, contractors, and equipment vendors to clarify technical requirements and coordinate project tasks.

  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation such as design packages, reports, test plans, and operation manuals.

  • Provide support during equipment inspections, installation, and commissioning, on-site or remotely, under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during project execution or system startup.

  • Ensure all electrical designs and installations comply with relevant codes and standards (NEC, IEC, IEEE).

  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and best practices in microgrid design and electrical engineering.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Experience: 0–2 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, project execution, or renewable energy systems. Internships, co-op placements, or academic projects in related fields are highly valued.

  • Language: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required to collaborate with international teams and stakeholders.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Solid understanding of power systems and electrical engineering principles.

    • Exposure to renewable energy technologies such as solar PV, battery storage, and generator systems.

    • Basic understanding of electrical codes and standards (NEC, IEC, IEEE).

    • Programming experience required (Python/C# preferred).

    • Basic knowledge of PLCs is a strong plus.

    • Interest in microgrid applications across sectors including commercial, industrial, and mission-critical facilities such as data centers.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.

    • Clear and confident communication abilities.

    • Proactive mindset with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

    • Ability to manage time effectively and follow up consistently with team members, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met.

    • Comfortable working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team.

    • Eagerness to learn and take initiative in a dynamic project environment.

  • Other Requirements:

    • Willingness to travel to project sites for inspections, meetings, and commissioning support as needed.

    • Strong commitment to safety, sustainability, and quality engineering practices.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation and benefits package.

  • Opportunities for growth in a rapidly expanding sector focused on sustainability and innovation.

  • Exposure to high-impact projects across diverse industries and technologies.

  • A collaborative and international work environment where your voice matters.
